Survey: China's urban dwellers highly optimistic

Urban Chinese are overwhelmingly happy with their country’s economic and political progress, and register higher levels of "national contentment" than citizens of other nations, according to public-opinon survey by the Pew Research Center, the Wall Street Journal reported. Of the 3,212 Chinese surveyed, 82% considered the country’s economic situation "good," compared to 69% of Austrialians, who placed second. Only 20% of urban Americans said the same for their country, placing the country 20th out of the 24 countries surveyed. Eighty-six percent of Chinese surveyed – who were mainly residents of relatively prosperous cities – also said they were satisfied with the way things are going in their country, up from 72% in 2005.
