Taiwan may increase mainland shipping links

Taiwan is likely to expand its direct shipping links with the Mainland next month, as Premier Frank Hsieh said the government was willing to allow boats to go directly between Penghu, a group of islands in the Taiwan Strait, and the Mainland's Fujian province, The Standard of Hong Kong reported. Currently, Taiwan allows direct trade and travel only from Quemoy and Matsu, two offshore islands, to Fujian. Travelers and most cargo must still go through Hong Kong.
