International talks to reduce tariffs on Chinese electronic goods reached an impasse after China submitted a long list of desired exemptions from the deal, Financial Times reported Wednesday. Twenty members of the World Trade Organization, including the US and the EU, have been trying to craft a multilateral deal that would expand the Information Technology Agreement. A deal seemed in reach this week, but talks were suspended after China proposed an exemption of 88 items, “darkening” the mood considerably. Country parties participating in the talks were hoping to see their products become more competitive.
