[photopress:television.jpg, full, alignright]Beijing will have a new claimant for the title of tallest building in the capital. This is the new headquarters of China Central Television (CCTV), which is on target to be opened before the end of this year.
It is on the east side of the three-ring road in Chaoyang District and is 234 meters high, 20 meters taller than the Jing Guang Center, Beijing’s tallest building at present. For the Olmpics in 2008 everything will be used for the broadcasts: the new tower, the CCTV old headquarters and the Olympic Center.
Business Week last year listed the new CCTV headquarters, the National Swimming Center, the Beijing Capital Airport and the Shanghai World Financial Center as the modern wonders of Chinese architecture.
