Texas Instruments expands chipmaking

Texas Instruments is expanding its chipmaking operations to China. The company said it has purchased a 120,000-square foot factory along with another 134,000 square feet of space for future expansion in Chengdu.
The facility, purchased from Cension Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, will primarily be used for fabrication of semiconductors. Texas Instruments believes that the factory can support the manufacturing of as much as US$1 billion worth of components annually.
"’Increasingly, customers there are using TI’s analog chips for the real-world functions in their electronic applications," said Texas Instruments analog senior vice president Gregg Lowe. "This fab in Chengdu will strengthen our ability to support customers’ growing requirements and deliver analog products when and where customers need them."
V3.co. uk reported that in choosing Chengdu, the company was catering for the increased demand for its products in China.
