[photopress:logistics_tianjin.jpg,full,alignright]China’s Tianjin port aims to handle 11 million TEUs and 400 million tonnes of cargo in 2010.
The idea is that the port becomes a container hub port serving Northeast Asia, the Middle East and West Asia in 2010. And the aim is for Tianjin to become the largest port in Northern China at the same time.
The port’s throughput is estimated to get to 300 million tonnes in mid-December 2007. As it handled 240.3 million tonnes of cargo, including 5.22 million TEUs in the first nine months it seems well on the way. Those figures are, respectively, a rise of 22.76% and 20.44% from a year ago.
The port is extending to meet this demand. The first phase of the Dongjiang Bonded Area of the port covers an area of 40,000 sq m and should start operations in mid-December while a 250,000-tonnage 19.5m deep channel will start operations at the end of this year.
