China is the number one source of international students for US universities, according to a report released by the Washington-based Institute of International Education.
The report, "Open Doors 2010 International Students in the US," said nearly 128,000 international students from China are studying in American universities and colleges during the 2009/2010 academic year.
Chinese student enrollment in the United States is increasing by a dramatic 30% a year and Chinese students represent more than 18% percent of the total international student population in the country.
Business and management remain the most popular fields of study for international students in the United States – 21% of the total – followed by engineering at 18%.
English.News.cn quoted the report as saying: "Together, the top three sending countries – China, India and South Korea – comprise nearly half (44%) of the total international enrolments in US higher education."
