Toyota, CATARC to test plug-in hybrid

Toyota and the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) will run joint verification tests of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid in Tianjin.
The idea is to check the suitability of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid for China. These tests will measure fuel efficiency, charging times, driving range and so on.
Takeshi Uchiyamada, Toyota executive vice president, said, "As we move to distance cars from petroleum, we view electricity, which can be produced using any primary energy source, as exceptionally promising. Greater use of it is in lockstep with China’s electrification policy."
Press Release Network reports the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is scheduled for commercial launch at the start of 2012.
