Toyota Motor Corp will recall close to 700,000 Camry and other model sedans in the Japanese automaker’s largest recall in China, Reuters reported. The 688,314 vehicles made at Toyota’s two China joint venture factories have a faulty electric switch to the window. A Toyota spokesperson said that no casualties or fatalities have been linked with the defect. Analysts said that the automaker may suffer in China for the near term, but that the minor nature of the defect and the fact that it involves only a single supplier would not affect the automaker’s long-term growth prospects in China. Toyota sold 284,000 passenger cars in China in the first half of 2009, virtually unchanged from the previous year due to limited offerings of small cars.
