Trump returns to tariff threats against China

Speaking on the American interview program “60 minutes”, the US president gave warnings of further tariffs and punishments for China if no deal is reached regarding the country’s trade practices.
“I want them to negotiate a fair deal with us. I want them to open their markets like out markets are open,” Trump said. When asked whether his goal is to bring about a depression in China, the president said no but also compared the recent stock-market rout to the Great Depression of the late 1920s, Bloomberg points out.
Trump has previously threatened to slap tariffs on the entire list of Chinese imports into the US as a potential next step in the trade war. So far, his administration has applied duties to $250 billion of Chinese goods, with Beijing engaging in tit-for-tat measures at every stage.
