Tsunami relief effort

As death estimates climbed to 125,000 and accusations flew over America's "stingy" US$35m initial commitment to tsunami disaster relief critics contrasted the sum to Sweden's commitment of US$77m and Spain's promise of US$65m state media reported that the central government had promised US$2.62m in donations and goods, noting that emergency relief shipments worth US$1.2m had already arrived in Sri Lanka while another airlift was being readied for Indonesia. Chinese emergency relief and medical teams, meanwhile, were reported either already working at disaster sites or preparing to fly to them.
