China executed two of 21 people convicted for their roles in selling baby formula contaminated with the chemical melamine, AP reported. Zhang Yujun, a dairy farmer, was convicted and executed for endangering public safety. Geng Jinping, a milk salesman, was executed for producing and selling toxic food. The death sentences were issued by the Shijiazhuang Municipal Intermediate People’s Court in Hebei province. Most of the formula produced and sold by Zhang and Geng ended up at Sanlu Group, the company at the heart of the melamine scandal, which filed for bankruptcy late last year. The other 19 people convicted in the scandal have been given lesser sentences. Six children are known to have died, and more than 300,000 were sickened after drinking the tainted formula.
