Air China Flight No. 185 departs from Beijing at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and arrives at Taiwan’s Taoyuan airport at 11:35 a.m. via a northern route which is 10 minutes quicker than the first one, which was opened last year.
Meanwhile, a China Southern Air flight departs from Guangzhou at 11:42 a.m. and arrived in Taoyuan at 1:31 p.m. on the first southern route for direct cross-strait flights. The two new routes will facilitate the launch of regularly scheduled flights across the Taiwan Strait in the future.
The first direct air route across the Taiwan Strait was opened Dec. 15, 2008 when direct air and shipping links were launched in accordance with an agreement signed in Taipei.
Some 5,800 flights have been recorded on the first northern direct cross-strait route since it was opened last year, according to China’s top air traffic control agency.
Taiwan News reported the supplementary agreement also stipulated that regularly scheduled passenger and cargo flights across the Taiwan Strait will be launched as soon as possible.
