A group of Xinjiang Uighurs seeking asylum from the United Nation’s High Commissioner for Refugees have made it to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Reuters reported. Of the 22 Uighurs who made it to the UNHCR offices in the Southeast Asian capital, two claim to have witnessed security forces beating and killing Uighur demonstrators during the riots that erupted in Urumuqi, Xinjiang, on July 5. Other would-be refugees were captured by police, according to the Uighur American Association. So far, 17 people have been condemned to death in connection with the riots.
