The United Nations called on China to become a bigger donor rather than recipient of food aid. The call came from the World Food Programme (WFP), which is phasing out its aid to China in 2005 after helping to feed some 35m Chinese. The WFP said China no longer needs its help and urged the government to use its experience of lifting millions out of hunger and poverty to help other countries.
