[photopress:troy.jpg, full, alignright]Troy University, Alabama, will initiate a new program to bring more Chinese students to the campus. Dr. Curt Porter, associate vice chancellor for international affairs, said under the new program, Chinese students will study for two years at a partner Chinese institution and spend their last two years at Troy. It is similar in structure to the existing one-two-one program in which students study for one year in China, two at Troy, and then a final year at home.
The one-two-one program was initiated by Troy University in 2001 and has been one the school’s most successful international initiatives. Of the nearly 700 international students at Troy, Chinese students make up the largest portion.
Porter said the one-two-one program was implemented to accommodate U.S. visa laws which made it difficult for Chinese students to get visas. It was easier for Chinese students to get visas for the one-two-one program because it gave a measure of assurance that the students would be returning to China at the end of their studies.
