Over the next five years the foundations of a high-speed railway network in southwestern China will be formed, and the core areas of the five major cities will be linked by a rail transport system.
According to Li Hongwei, general manager of Rail Transport Co in Guiyang, urban rail transit generally covers the main downtown corridors. It will effectively connect with the city’s public transport system, airports and high-speed trains.
The Ministry of Railways has said it will accelerate the construction of a high-speed rail network in the western region from 2011 to 2015.
English People’s Daily Online reports that Guizhou province alone will have 2,200 kilometers of newly built high-speed railway, forming a two-hour traffic circle to Chengdu, Chongqing and Kunming.
When this is completed, southwest China will have fully entered the high-speed rail era with a fast network for commodities and logistics.
