The United States and China imposed further tariffs on another $16 billion of each other’s goods on Thursday after two days of talks between mid-level officials from the two countries in Washington ended without a deal, Reuters reports.
The American side appears to be continuing to pressure China to make concessions on issues such as forced technology transfers, intellectual property theft and industrial subsidies, with the Chinese side unwilling to make firm commitments.
China has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization over the US’s latest round of tariffs, which brings the total value of goods affected by duties to $50 billion.
