US, China end chip tax dispute

With China agreeing to gradually phase out duties on imported semiconductors, the United States said it was dropping its first WTO case against China. The Chinese agreed to eliminate the tax, which resulted in 14% higher prices for imported chips, over nine months. US Trade representative Robert Zoellick called China a voracious consumer of chips and said the agreement would level the playing field.
