US-China Strategic Economic Dialogue to begin May 24

The second round of the annual US-China Strategic Economic Dialogue will be held in Beijing on May 24-25, the US Treasury Department said Monday. The US delegation will be led by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Vice Premier Wang Qishan will represent China. No formal agenda has been released for the summit, although the renminbi is almost certain to be an item of discussion. Much rests on whether China indicates – before or after the meeting – that it intends to resume gradual appreciation of its currency against the US dollar, Reuters reported.
