US business groups are pressuring the Bush administration to prevent China from formalizing rules governing wireless (Wi-fi) data communication technology, which business groups say would hinder foreign firms from marketing their technology in China. China requires that all Wi-fi equipment in computers and other electronics sold in China after June 1, 2004 include a unique technology only available from Chinese firms. This issue is expected to add heat to election-year discussions in Congress to keep Chinese goods out of the US.
