US textile talks fail, curbs imposed

The US has restricted imports of Chinese made bras and synthetic fabric for high-end clothing after US-China textile talks failed Wednesday, The Standard of Hong Kong reported. The move is intended to increase pressure on Beijing to compromise in talks to reduce the surge in Chinese textile exports to the US. After three days of talks, Sino-US negotiators failed to reach a comprehensive agreement that would contain the overall growth of Chinese garment exports over five years. Meanwhile, EU trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson on Thursday said he hoped to reach an accord very soon on the release into Europe of about 75 million Chinese garments blocked since June's negotiations capped imports.
