US Trade Representative Ron Kirk said that Washington would continue to press Beijing to safeguard the intellectual property rights of multinational firms, AFP reported. Kirk said that during bilateral trade talks with China "[w]e did address it and we were pleased that we got them to at least agree to be more transparent but we do not have final resolution of that. This is going to be one of the top items that we continue to engage China on." The remarks come as a report by the US Chamber of Commerce is due to be released, which argues that China’s attempts to acquire advanced industrial technology from foreign multinationals and use them to bolster domestic competitors constitutes a "blueprint for technology theft on a scale the world has never seen before."
