US Commerce Secretary Don Evans said China had to remove more trade barriers to cut the Sino-US trade imbalance. The deficit hit a record US$124 billion in 2003, and is expected to increase this year. Evans said he wanted to see more Made in America labels in China's marketplace, adding that US exporters had concerns about market access. On the plus side, he said Chinese officials told him they hoped to see US power and aviation companies sell more products in China.
