Volkswagen said its sales rose by 9% in China, including Hong Kong, in March as consumer confidence was helped by government policies, Reuters reported. The automaker sold 112,466 vehicles in China during the month, a new monthly record for the company, up from 103,204 in March 2008. Sales for the first quarter increased 5.94% to 284,193 units. The growth in sales prompted Volkswagen to revise its sales forecast and increase its production plans for the year. Passenger car sales have been helped by government policies including tax incentives and targeted subsidies. Nationwide auto sales increased 10.24% in March, and Volkswagen rival General Motors saw sales increase 24.6% year-on-year.
