[photopress:mba_sam_walton.jpg,full,alignright]A group of Chinese and U.S. nationals, working for American companies in China, have just gone to the University of Arkansas to begin classes in an innovative new Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA). The program was recently launched by the university at the Sam M. Walton College of Business.
Last year the Walton College signed an agreement with Tong Ji University in Shanghai, China, to implement the program. The program is designed to help managers move to the next level in their career development.
Walton College Dean Dan Worrell said, ‘Many U.S. companies do business internationally, and we want to prepare our students for the global marketplace. This new Executive MBA represents one of several ways that the college is expanding its international footprint.’
Matt Waller, professor of marketing and logistics and holder of the Oren Harris Chair in Logistics, will lead the Executive MBA program for the first three years. He said, ‘The program will combine both an academic insight and industry experience from executives-in-residence in the curriculum.’
The entire program will be conducted in English. A unique feature of the program is a capstone project that requires participants to identify $250,000 in cost reduction or profit increase for their company. The project must be documented and approved by an executive sponsor at their respective companies.
The lead faculty will provide feedback about the project to the executive sponsor as well as to the student.
