World Bank blocks bids from Chinese construction firms

The World Bank has banned four Chinese firms from bidding on future projects after alleged efforts to rig bids in a road construction project in the Philippines, the Wall Street Journal reported. China State Construction Corp and China Wu Yi Co were barred from bidding on contracts for six years, though that could be reduced to four years if the companies establish compliance programs meeting World Bank standards. China Road and Bridge Corp was debarred for eight years with the possibility of reinstatement after five years, and China Geo-Engineering Corp was debarred for five years with the chance of reinstatement after three years. Three companies from the Philippines also face bans.
