Tap water in Wuxi, Jiangsu province is potable again, ending a crisis that left 2.3 million residents without drinking water, the Wall Street Journal reported. Tap water had been rendered undrinkable after a canopy of algae grew atop Tai Lake, the city's main water source. The algae had bloomed due to nutrient-rich untreated sewage and industrial waste in the lake. The government used "emergency measures", including diverting the Yangtze River and seeding clouds to induce rain, to flush the algae away.
