Chinese president Xi Jinping will use an 11-day trip to Europe to bolster Beijing’s diplomatic influence in the region, South China Morning Post reported, citing foreign ministry officials and diplomatic observers. For the past year, China has been focused on building relationships with Moscow and other near neighbors. The tour, which starts on Saturday, will see Xi visit four European nations including France, Germany and Belgium. He is due to meet US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of a nuclear safety summit in the Netherlands early next week.
