For those slighly fuzzy on the geography involved Bole (or Bortala in Mongolian) is a county-level city in Xinjiang. The area is 7517 km² and the total population is 403,700. It is the seat of Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, which borders on to Kazakhstan.
At the airport there will be a new 49,770-square-meter terminal building. The airport is designed as a category C airport with a 2,600-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway.
Total investment of the construction is $44 million and the airport is scheduled to start operation in July of 2010.
China Aviation reports that at present, there are 13 airports in Xinjiang for general aviation operation and by the end of 2010, there will be a total of 17 airports of all kinds in the Uyghur Autonomy Region of Xinjiang, making it the province with the most trunk line airports in China.
