Zhou Yongkang charges expected soon: Sources

The corruption-related charges against former national security chief Zhou Yongkang may be formally revealed at an earlier-than-usual plenary session next month, South China Morning Post reported, citing unnamed sources. The sources said the authorities were worried the disgrace of Zhou, who was in charge of law and order for more than a decade, would shake public confidence in the legal system. In response, Communist Party leaders have decided to put more emphasis on the rule of law during the session. They intend to defend the probe, saying it followed the party’s constitution and was not driven by a political power struggle.
