A study on the future of Zhuhai's underutilised airport will be published late this month, said South China Morning Post. A source at the airport authority said that more emphasis would be placed on express cargo. The airport hopes that the study will encourage foreign investment to pay off its debts.
Zhuhai is one of an alliance of five Pearl River Delta airports that mounted a joint promotion of economic development at an air cargo forum held in Hong Kong in September. The alliance, known as A5, was formed at the beginning of this year to explore areas of possible co-operation between the Hong Kong, Macau, Zhuhai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou airports.
