China's top 100 retailers reported first quarter sales volume of RMB47.8bn, up 21% from a year ago, state media reported, citing the China General Chamber of Commerce. Sales of timber products, chemical products, led the gains, registering increases of 258% and 146% from last year. Apparel sales rose 29% while electronics and home appliances sales grew 12%.
