7-Eleven, the Texas-headquartered convenience store chain, has decided to extend its China operations into Shanghai, according to ‘reliable sources’ quoted in Shanghai Daily. 7-Eleven, the world’s largest convenience store operator, currently is only present in Guangdong province where its sole mainland licensee, Dairy Farm International, operates more than 70 stores in Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The report said that both Dairy Farm and 7-Eleven’s licensee in Taiwan, Uni-President Corporation, were interested in operating in Shanghai.
If 7-Eleven does enter Shanghai, it would follow Lawson of Japan, the world’s second largest convenience chain, which has more than 100 stores in the city.
