Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang has forecast China’s annual production capacity of electric cars with lithium ion batteries will reach 1 million units by 2020. He said new electric vehicles are key to the development of China’s auto industry.
Wan said automobile exhaust emissions account for 70% of the air pollution in China’s big cities. While extolling new electric cars, Wan also said promotion of public transport would likewise help in easing the problem of pollution.
He said public transport should be the top priority for using new energy automobiles in China. Twenty-five Chinese cities have joined a pilot program to promote the use of electric vehicles.
Reve reported that nearly 300 companies have signed up to appear at the 25th World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition to be held in Shenzhen in November.
