[photopress:ibis.jpg, full, alignright]French hotels and services group Accor aims to operate over 40 Ibis hotels in China by 2008. The French hotelier, which just opened its sixth Ibis hotel in China, has another 35 Ibis hotels under construction or committed for development by 2008, bringing the total to 40-50 hotels under its budget hotel network.
Accor, which also vies in China with domestic budget hotel firms Home Inns & Hotel and Motel 168, plans to open 60 more hotels in the country before 2008.
Among its global rivals, InterContinental Hotels, the world’s largest hotelier, expects China to help lift the Asia-Pacific region to 15% (up from a current 10%) of its pretax profit over the next three to five years.
