Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced that it would provide China with a technical assistance (TA) grant of US$350,000 to China's judicial organs.
The aim of the grant is to foster transparency in China's legislative and judicial systems through encouragement of increased public participation in policy decisionmaking. The TA program will involve the Legislative Affairs Commission of the National People's Congress, the Office of Legislative Affairs under the State Council and the Supreme People's Court.
ADB praised the development of China's legal system, adding that the grant was indicative of its hopes for further progress. The Chinese government will also contribute US$112,000 to the TA program, which is scheduled to conclude in September 2004.
