Air China and Shenzhen Airlines join

Air China and its 51%-controlled subsidiary, Shenzhen Airlines, are accelerating the integration of the two airlines’ network resources, which is predicted to generate a .7 billion renminbi synergistic effect value.

They have jointly announced a decision to open another two express airlines, separately linking the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu with Guangzhou and Shenzhen from May, 1 following the Beijing-Shenzhen express airline.

This move means that Air China will complete the airline network consolidation in its four important base cities including Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Ultimately, it is expected to represent 50% (possibly more) of the Chengdu-Guangzhou and Chengdu-Shenzhen air transportation markets together with Shenzhen Airlines.

Trading Markets reports that now with an agreement that has been made with the government of Shenzhen, Air China is set to create Shenzhen Airlines as a national air carrier with an over 50% share in the city’s local aviation market.
