Air China (AIRC.LSE, 601111.SH, 0753.HK) posted a 60% year-on-year increase in net profit to US$690 million in the first half of the year, the Wall Street Journal reported. The jump was fueled by a broader economic recovery that drove up demand for passenger travel (which rose 35%) and air freight services. The firm reported a net revenue increase of 53%, and noted continuing efficiency gains. However, it remains unclear what impact the deadly airline crash this week of Henan Airlines, a subsidiary of Air China, will have on the firm. Henan Airlines cancelled all flights after a crash in Heilongjiang province killed at least 42 people on Tuesday.
