Alcatel nets DSL supply contract

China Telecom signed Alcatel Shanghai to deliver 1.3 Million digital subscriber lines (DSL) in 15 provinces and municipalities in southern China. Financial terms were not disclosed. Alcatel will deploy its 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM) technology to enhance network capacity, enabling China Telecom to deliver video streaming, broadcast video, video on demand and on-line gaming (electronic games, not gambling facilities) to subscribers. For Alcatel, the contract represents 40% of total work, making it the upgrade project's lead supplier, the French equipment maker said.
