Alibaba’s (BABA.NYSE) cloud-computing platform Aliyun has announced a “Data Protection Plan” promising users ownership of their data and pledging not to alter or transfer that data in any way, The Wall Street Journal reported. Aliyun is China’s largest provider of public cloud-computing services and has increasingly been working with government agencies to migrate their data onto its cloud. Aliyun’s pact did not mention any measures to guard against state-sponsored cyberspying, or how it would handle requests from governments or law-enforcement agencies to hand over user data. Aliyun President Simon Hu said the company would abide by local regulations wherever it operates.
