Alibaba considering India e-commerce JV as orders recover

Alibaba.com Chief Executive David Wei said the company may establish a business-to-business e-commerce joint venture in India, the Wall Street Journal reported. The joint venture, which Wei said would be similar to a joint venture launched in Japan with telecommunications and new media technology firm Softbank Corp, would mostly target the same small and medium-sized enterprises Alibaba currently works with in India. Wei has expressed optimism about a recovery in Chinese exports in the fourth quarter – with exports either unchanged or up slightly from the previous year – noting Alibaba had seen a "noticeable" recovery in orders.  The company is set to release its second-quarter earnings on August 13.
