Alibaba invests in ShopRunner – source

Alibaba has contributed most of the funding for a US$206 million investment deal in ShopRunner, a platform rivaling Amazon that offers unlimited two-day shipping from major US retailers for an annual fee, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unamed source. The deal values ShopRunner at about US$600 million, and completes a funding round in which Alibaba chipped in about US$70 million, though the actual investment amount isn’t clear, the source said. American Express (AXP.NYSE) has also taken a small stake in ShopRunner and eBay (EBAY.NASDAQ) sold its prior 30% holding for a profit.
