China may one day have its own equivalent of Noah’s Ark based on aerostat technology. Wu Manqing, director of No. 38 Institution of China Electronic Technology, said aerostats, like the "Sky Eye" above the World Expo site, could be used in future not just as aerial surveillance devices but also possibly to save lives if natural disasters strike. Wu said the UK’s "SkyCat" was currently the biggest aerostat in the world, able to carry a 1,000-ton load or 15,000 people. Wu said China is in the first stages of aerostat research and development and it was not impossible for it create its own aerostat which could serve as a Noah’s Ark during a natural disaster. China.org.cn reports that the "Sky Eye" above the Expo site will remain in the air for urban surveillance after the Expo ends.
