An American citizen and two Chinese employees of drugmaker AstraZeneca (AZN.NYSE, AZN.LON) were detained by Chinese police in connection with the ongoing investigation of bribery by foreign pharma companies in China, The Guardian reported. The US embassy did not identify the American in detention or the company he works for. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK.NYSE, GSK.LON), a major focus of the investigation, and AstraZeneca said that the individual was not an employee of either company. It follows the arrest of Peter Humphrey, a British private investigator who has worked for GSK in the past, on 10 July.
