American tech firms' China deals raise national security concerns in US

Cross-border cooperation between Chinese and American tech firms are coming under greater scrutiny, the latest example being a report critical of IBM’s partnerships on the mainland, The New York Times reported. The report by Defense Group, a security firm with ties to the US Department of Defense, claimed that already, “IBM is endangering the national and economic security of the United States, risking the cybersecurity of their customers globally, and undermining decades of U.S. nonproliferation policies regarding high-performance computing.” Reviews by the US government have resulted in two decisions this year that commercial technology deals with Chinese firms could threaten national security.
