A Chinese court sentenced an American to two and a half years in prison for selling pirated DVDs, after US and Chinese authorities traced a global counterfeit-movie ring to his Shanghai home. Randolph Hobson Guthrie III was also ordered to pay a US$60,500 fine and faced deportation on completing sentence, which he has 10 days to appeal. Other accomplices, which included two Chinese and another American, Cody Abram Thrush, were given jail terms up to 15 months and fines up to RMB30,000 (US$3,628).
