An AI alliance

China has launched a new global AI organization and has convinced Russia and 28 other countries to join it, with the goal of taking the lead in creating AI standards, as the US-China tech race intensifies.

This latest move again raises the question of whether the US is losing its position of authority on the global stage as a consequence of Trump’s policies with regard to multilateral and governance partnerships in all areas. Just several years ago, it would have seemed unprecedented that China could be taking the lead in drawing up such an organization, but because the US and the West in general, tended to take the lead.

This new Chinese organization brings together much of the non-Western world and might give China the chance to secure AI dominance in these markets.
