A data breach at one of China’s leading hotel groups has led to nearly 500 million pieces of personal information and booking details from customers being leaked, Caixin reports.
The incident is one of the largest data breaches ever uncovered in China, and comes just a week after Caixin also reported on a hacking incident that affected nearly 100 companies and also involved the leaking of personal information on millions of consumers. Huazhu operates nearly 4,000 hotels and generated $380 million in the second quarter of this year.
According to internet security company Zpower, which discovered the breach, user registration information from 123 million people and 240 million pieces of hotel booking records have been leaked from Huazhu.
