China’s assistant minister of foreign affairs for Latin America and the Caribbean, Zhang Kunsheng, has been removed from his post and put under investigation for graft, The Financial Times reported, citing an announcement from the foreign ministry. The move marks the first victim of the ongoing anti-corruption campaign to hail from the current senior diplomatic ranks, although the official statement provided no details on the grounds for the investigation of Zhang, who was also chief of the protocol department before his removal.
